*Urgent* Call for Volunteers: Help our NEK Neighbors

posted in: News | 0

Dear Ridgeline Community,

The Northeast Kingdom was devastated by an unprecedented 8 inches of rainfall on July 30th, on top of the flooding just two weeks ago. The impact of this severe weather has been profound, affecting not only Kingdom Trails but also our beloved NEK communities.

On behalf of their home and namesake, Kingdom Trails is issuing a CALL TO ACTION! Please consider VOLUNTEERING!

Incredible volunteers have been tirelessly mucking and gutting houses for days, stretching their efforts across the Kingdom’s 2,000+ square miles. KURRVE, Kingdom United Resilience & Recovery Effort, established last year after the floods, is leading these vital efforts.

Volunteers are desperately needed.

To sign up for mucking and gutting houses use the KURRVE Volunteer Form.

If you have experience in trail building and maintenance, join forces with the Kingdom Trails Trail Crew to help reopen our trails. Please reach out directly to Geoff Whitchurch, the unflappable Trail Director, to coordinate your involvement. geoff@kingdomtrails.org

Major work needs to be done building water bars, replacing culverts, and bridges. KT is the major economic driver in our region, attracting over 100,000 visitors annually and generating a community impact of more than $10 million. This vital contribution is at risk if our trails remain closed. Your expertise is crucial not just for KT but for the entire NEK region. A region that already experiences economic and social challenges.

It’s clear that intense storms are – unfortunately – part of a ‘new normal’ shaped by a changing climate, and it will surely take a lot more cooperation across communities and organizations to meet the challenge.
